I'm going to post the emails that I've sent out here for those that signed up last minute:
Final email of 2024
Results have been finalized and medals are in the mail! I had linked to the 2023 results in the previous email. I’m sure most of you figured it out, but there is the link to the 2024 results:
https://ultrasignup.com/results_event.aspx?did=110817
As mentioned previously, we had some timer issues on race day and we couldn’t get anything to sync in real time. Due to this, we had to calculate the categories on the fly, which led to a few mistakes. At this point, I’ll do my best to get the folks the medals, but some medals might already be gone to the wrong racer. I apologize for this mistake, and I’ll be sure to address these issues for next year.
Personally, it was pretty cool to see that the biking times were quite comparable to the runners times. If you look at the top 20 finish times, 10 were bikers and 10 were runners. And a shout out to the kids that showed up! We had 13 participants under 14 years old. These kids all earned their boba tea, thank you Matcha Boba. I’ve attached a spreadsheet of the results.

First of all, congratulations to everyone!
What a beautiful day to spend outside, pushing your limits. Thank you for coming out and giving it your all.each one of you should be so proud of yourselves.
We had 266 finishers yesterday, up from 103 last year!
43 bikers, 37 hikers, and 186 runners.
Our youngest participant was 9 and our wisest was 75 years young.
I was very happy to see some veterans return, Shahid, Bob Julian, Pokey, and notably Katherine and Larry, who participated in the first run in 1978. Very inspirational
Race Pics
We were fortunate enough to have Kevin Jantzer take photos of the event. The photos are free to download and share, and you can purchase printed directly from the site.

If you have any great photos that you’d like to share, please send them my way!
Results
Are up! Check them out here.
Please contact me if you think there is an error in the results so I can edit it before it’s finalized. (I’m sure we have some errors as we had some technical difficulties yesterday. Apologies in advance.) Due to this error we had some difficulties in getting the category awards figured out. Once the results are confirmed and finalized, I’ll send out the medals to the Top 3 participants in the category.
Here are the racers who finished 2:30 and below. As you can see you have a pretty good mix of bikers and runners (If Jade wasn’t planning on riding another 130 miles after this race, I bet he could’ve pushed it a bit more)

This is the main fundraising event for Ashland Woodlands and Trails Association (AWTA). AWTA maintains and provides trail access in this region. If you want to get involved, I urge you to get on the mailing list, join us for trailwork, and connect with this amazing community.
Proceeds from the bike portion go to RVMBA, the local mountain bike organization and to Ashland DEVO, the local youth mountain bike organization. Please consider getting involved or donating to these important organizations to our community.
Shout out to all the volunteers, many who have participated in the race (or will next year) or are involved with AWTA. You may have seen Ben Benjamin who was at 4 corners who came in 2nd in the inaugural race in 1978..
And a final thank you to our sponsors, the Elbow Room Taiko Drummers, Mt A,and last but not least my wife and family.
See y’all next year

2 days to go:
Dear Racers,
We are excited to see all of you soon—just under a day and a half to go! Please read this email carefully, as it will serve as our pre-race meeting. If you have any last-minute questions, feel free to email me or find me tomorrow or on race morning.
Website Updates I've added paces alongside the aid stations on the website. If you missed the racer email from 10 days ago, it's also on the webpage with important information. We now have over 300 participants (including hikers and mountain bikers), a significant increase from last year's 80 starters. We appreciate your patience with any hiccups due to this growth.
Course Conditions The final section of the course has some snow. Bikers will need to hike-a-bike, and runners will need to slow down and kick steps. The running course is flagged from the lodge to the finish. Check out our Instagram @mtashlandhillclimb for pictures.
Start The start line is at the crosswalk in front of Skout. Arrive early to secure parking (or get dropped off). Skout will open early for restroom use; please keep it clean! There will also be porta-potties near the start line. Plan to use the bathroom before you leave home.
Course Markings The course is not fully marked between aid stations. The road will be "closed" at the start, but local residents will still have access.
Finish The finish line is at the Radome (the giant soccer ball). Finish timers will record your time when you reach the finish. Please yell out your bib number, especially if you are finishing with a group. Limited water is available at the finish as the summit access road still has deep snow patches, so driving up is not possible. After finishing, take a few minutes to rest, enjoy the views, cheer on fellow racers, then head down to the lodge for refreshments.
Less Cups Initiative We're trying to reduce cup usage this year. Consider carrying a small handheld bottle or a collapsible cup to cut down on waste at aid stations.
Weather The weather looks favorable, with cool temperatures throughout the race. Ashland will have a high of 85°F (65°F at the start) and the summit will have a high of 65°F.
Age Groups/Awards/Raffles Awards will take place at 11 am for early finishers and another one an hour or so later, followed by a raffle (must be present to win). Categories:
Runners:
Packet Pick-Up Packet pick-up is from 3:30-6 pm at Rogue Valley Runners on Friday. It's a great time to pick up last-minute items and catch up with friends. If you can't make it, packet pick-up will start at 6:30 am on race morning, ending around 7 am. We'll also have older race shirts on sale for $10 (cash only)
Shedding Layers We’ll have a small bin at White Rabbit for gloves, jackets, etc. Ben and Sally (who participated in the first race 46 years ago!) will bring them up to the lodge around noon. If you need to leave early, plan to keep your layers on.
Dropping Out If you need to drop out, inform an aid station captain or text me at 510-468-4105. We have local SAR members participating, but they'd prefer to finish the race rather than conduct searches.
Mt Ashland Amenities The lodge will be open from 8 am to 2 pm with a full kitchen menu. If you pre-ordered a hamburger, your bib will have a sticker for it. The redesigned Sonnet disc golf course will also be open.
Hikers Remember this is an open course. Walk no more than 2-3 abreast and stay on your side of the road.
Mountain Bikers The start time has been moved up to 7:20 am (not 7:25 am). Stay on the right side of the road and follow all traffic rules. After 4 Corners, the turn onto 2080 is sharp and loose—please slow down. A lot of the course is open to cars, so ride responsibly. Riders must finish with the equipment they started with, i.e. no leaving your bike at the first snow patch. You must finish with your bike.
Thank You Sponsors!
Best, Yu

10 days to go:
Dear racers!
We’ve got quite the turnout for this year’s race. We’ve doubled the registrations from last year and the run is sold out! Please read the racer email and review the information on the website (I’ve added more details).
Double check your registration please!
Take 30 seconds and please go to ultrasignup, log into your profile, and double check that you are signed up for the right category. With the addition of a mountain biker and a hiker category this year, the registration page can get confusing. If you’d like to switch categories, please let me know ASAP and I’ll see what we can do.
Shuttles
We currently have 30 folks that said they’d like a ride down from the top. We had about a dozen folks say they wanted the shuttle ride down last year and I think 4 folks took the bus down (most folks found other rides). This year, we got Ashland Mtn Adventures at the parking lot ready to take down runners or bikers at 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Bring 10$ cash/person to get a ride.
Packet pick up @ RVR
Come to Rogue Valley Runners in Ashland on Fri from 3:30 pm to 6 pm. The best running shop in Oregon. We’ll have a variety of older shirts (with no year) for 10$. If you can’t make it to RVR on Fri, we’ll do some packet pick ups at 6:30 am - 6:45 am race morning near the start line, but we really, really prefer you come to RVR the night before.
Drop Bags
Please keep it tiny! Remember that the lodge will be open, so you won’t freeze, and we’ll have snacks and drinks so you can recover.
Poles
Some of you may want poles for the last section, which has a few patches of snow. Feel free to put poles in your drop bag (or I'll bring a garbage bin that you can toss the poles in at the start), but make sure to put your bib number on them.
After you finish
You’ll be asked to hike back down to the lodge. That Common Block beer will taste extra yummy that way. We’ll also have a few cases of Athletic Brewing for those who want a non alcoholic beer option. If you ordered a burger, get your burger. And the lodge will be open for other refreshments and food. Note: many of you will want to walk down the backside fire road as it is more gradual, but it is 3 mi vs 1 mi on the Mt Ashland Trail, so be prepared for a long walk if you choose the fire road.
Food/Drinks
Folks that pre-purchased a hamburger or veggie burger can just show Mt A your marked bib to get your grub. There should be some extra burgers and veggie burgers to purchase, so bring cash or card to get your post-race burger. There will be Common Block beers at the lodge as well. We’ll also have some snacks and drinks so you can properly recover.
Course conditions
The bike course has a patch of snow 1/4 mile long or so which you'll have to hike-a-bike. The runner’s trail to the summit also has snow. IMO, running on soft snow is pretty fun.
Spectating
This is a tough race for spectators. After sending off your racer at the start line, you may be able to catch them at the top of Terrace st or Morton st. Note that there will be road closures for the race within city limits, so that may delay your viewing. Once the racers are past Morton St the next spot to spectate will be at Mt Ashland. We encourage families and friends to join us at the lodge to cheer on the racers as they tackle the last mile. The lodge will be open, serving limited refreshments and food. We’ll also have help cheering on the racers from the Elbow Room Taiko Drummers, so come up and enjoy the festivities!
Volunteers
We’ve got a lot more folks participating this year. So I’m sure there’ll be a few more issues during the race and would love to have a few more volunteers to help the racers. Please reach out to me if you have friends or family that can help out. They’ll get a free meal, beer, and a shirt for their efforts!
Questions?
Send me your questions and I’ll try to answer them in the next email, which will have last minute updates.
Finally, thanks to our sponsors for making this possible, please check them out!:
