Bandersnatch 5K

Due to COVID-19, we will not be able to hold our 2020 event as we'd like.  That said, we would still like to challenge each of you, so we will be holding our event virtually during the month of November.  Registration is open already, and participants will have the entire month to complete the course to compete for various prizes (TBD).  We plan on having contests for fastest time (including a special prize if anyone beats the fastest time to date (22:57) and most runs of the route during the month.  Stay tuned here for more updates as November draws closer.

After the Alameda fire tore through our community, we decided we needed to do something to try to help out our community.  This year, AWTA has decided to support a local charity, Rogue Food Unites, with our fundraising efforts.  As such, the virtual event will raise funds for that cause - with 100% of all proceeds going directly to them.  Check out their site for the awesome work they are doing, consider donating directly and please, register for our race to not only hold yourself accountable to your training (right?) but also give back to them while having fun.

What began as a simple discussion about "no short distance trail races in the Rogue Valley" years ago has evolved into one of the tougher and more fun 5K runs in the area.  Showcasing the entire Bandersnatch trail, as well as some of the beginning sections of the Mt. Ashland HillClimb route (our sister race), this event will challenge you with over 800 feet of climb and descent in just 3+miles.  Held every year in November, this race is run at the same time as our Lewis Loops 10M race, making it easily a family/friend outing where there is something for everyone.

The course begins and ends at the end of Ashland's famous Lithia Park, where the reservoir area meets the road where Granite Street becomes Glenview Drive (see map below).  The course runs up Glenview, making a sharp right up Ashland Loop Road - the same route the HillClimb takes.  From there it runs up the road until you hit the beginning of the East side Bandersnatch trail, which will be your home all the way around to where you began - about a 3 1/2 loop.  Yes, we know 3 1/2 miles is NOT a 5K, but it's close enough and we throw in the bonus distance free of charge.  You're welcome.

Beginning in 2019, the event shirts were officially designed by our RD's daughter (2 years old at the time) and will continue to be done so that each year is unique, and so that our RD can see his daughter's work proudly displayed all around town.  The shirts were a smash hit the first year, so make sure you register early to insure you reserve yours!

Registration is done through UltraSign Up, the link is here

Below is the map of the course route, as well as the elevation profile.  Please pay no mind the what appears to be a giant drop off around the mile 1.5 mark, we swear that there is no such cliff - just a GPS glitch.  Maybe one of these days we'll re-run the route to get a clearer and non-glitched profile, but you get the gist so meh, this will do.
